Dr Madalina Garbi is a consultant cardiologist with special interests in echocardiography & heart valve disease at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge.

Dr DOMINIK SCHLOSSHAN – pResident elect

Dr Dominik Schlosshan is a Consultant Cardiologist in cardiac imaging at the Yorkshire Heart Centre in Leeds. He is clinical lead for cardiac imaging and one of the largest valve clinics in the UK.

Dr Alison duncan – secretary

Dr Alison Duncan (MB BS BSc PhD FRCP) is Associate Specialist in Cardiology and Transcatheter Valve Therapies at The Royal Brompton Hospital.

Dr ANDREW MARSHALL – Treasurer

Dr Andrew Marshall is a Consultant Cardiologist at East Sussex Healthcare Trust. His subspecialty interests are in cardiac imaging, heart valve disease and heart failure.

Dr LAURA DOBSON – bOARD MEMBER

Dr Laura Dobson is a Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Echocardiography and Valvular Heart Disease at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester.

Carmelia demetrescu – BOARD MEMBER

I am a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Cardiology, and Joint Clinical Lead for Diagnostics and Outpatients at Guy’s and St Thomas NHS trust. I have 28 years NHS work experience in advanced echocardiography methodologies, with a specialist interest in valve disease, interventional cardiology, inherited cardiomyopathies, and heart failure.  

Dr MAMTA BUCH – EDUCATION CHAIR

Dr Mamta Buch is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist (Structural and Coronary) at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). She was appointed in 2011 and leads the transcatheter heart valve services.

Professor Vassilios Vassiliou – Communications Secretary

Prof Vassilios Vassiliou is a Clinical Professor in Cardiac Medicine at the University of East Anglia and an honorary consultant cardiologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Dr Harriett Hurrell – board member

Dr Harriett Hurrell is a cardiology registrar and currently a Clinical Research Fellow at Guys & St Thomas’ Hospitals in central London.

Dr Nabila Laskar – BJCA Representative

Dr Nabila Laskar is a cardiology registrar and currently a Clinical Research Fellow at the Barts Heart Centre in central London.

Mrs PAT KHAN – Patient Representative

Patricia Khan is the Council’s patient representative. She had mitral valve repair (Mr James Barnard) at Wythenshawe Hospital Manchester NHS Foundation Trust in 2013.

Dr TOM CAHILL – BOARD MEMBER

Dr Tom Cahill is a Consultant Cardiologist based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. He has extensive experience in general cardiology and a subspecialist interest in heart valve disease, coronary artery disease, and structural heart disease.

mS CHARLOTTE TURNER – BOARD MEMBER

Miss Charlotte Turner is a Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist, with specialist interest and expertise in heart valve disease, based at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. She has a first-class Honours degree in Cardiac Physiology, a Master’s degree in diagnostic imaging and is currently undertaking a Masters module in pathophysiology and clinical assessment at the University of Swansea.
