N Briffa

Professor Norman Briffa is a consultant cardiac surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Reader at the University of Sheffield. He graduated MB ChB from the University of Sheffield in 1983 and trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery in the West Midlands and Cambridge. His MD thesis on chronic vascular rejection in Xenotransplantation was based on work carried out as a Post Doc at Stanford University, USA.

His main clinical and research interest is in Heart valve Disease and he has published widely on the subject. He has supervised several BMedSci, MD and PhD students at the University of Sheffield. In recent years he has served as Treasurer and more recently as President of the British Heart Valve Society (2016-2019). He currently sits on the NICE guideline committee for Heart Valve Disease and the NHS England planning group for Heart Failure and Heart Valve Disease.
