Council Position: President
Dr Madalina Garbi is a consultant cardiologist with expertise in echocardiography and heart valve disease at the Royal Papworth Hospital. Previously, she held a similar position at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London and was an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at King’s College London and the Echocardiography Training and Education Lead for the South London Deanery.
Dr Garbi was The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Topic Adviser on Heart Valve Disease, working on the development of the first NICE Guidelines for Heart Valve Disease that were published in 2021. She has national and international recognition as an expert in echocardiography and heart valve disease, being a regular invited speaker and chair at major UK, European and American meetings and congresses and having co-authored several recommendations, guidelines, positions papers, research papers, invited reviews and editorials.
Dr Garbi was twice elected member of the Board of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (2012-2014 and 2014-2016). She became the President of the British Heart Valve Society in December 2022.
